History of Swick Construction Inc.
Clarence Swick and his four sons; Thomas, Bob, Bill and Jim established Swick & Sons Inc. in the 1950’s. The company began as a general contracting firm with a focus on nursing home construction. Thomas W. Swick (November 12th, 1919 – August 12th 1998) a third generation carpenter carried on the family business with his son Daniel Swick.
Daniel learned the carpentry trade by working along side his father and grandfather as a young boy. Daniel left the family business and attended 2 years of college and then served in the military for two years. In July of 1972 Daniel returned to the family business at which time Swick Construction Inc. (S.C.I.) was founded.
Swick Construction Inc. continued a rich family tradition specializing in residential and light commercial framing. The company grew rapidly building nearly 50 quality custom homes a year. S.C.I. then evolved into a general contracting firm expanding their services from framing and custom homes to include large commercial projects and construction management services.
December of 1981, Thomas W. Swick retired. S.C.I. then enhanced their facilities by including a designated mill shop to help meet the growing demand of the company’s services; specifically custom milled products. As a result, Elegant Home Supply Incorporated was born. E.H.S.I. was created as a separate entity to provide Swick Construction Inc. with millwork products that were not readily available on lumber yard shelves. Today, Elegant Home Supply Inc. serves a variety of custom home builders and construction companies alike and welcomes the opportunity to develop additional relationships with those in need of specialty milled and hardwood products. In addition, E.H.S.I. offers custom staining and finishing.
Daniel, along with his son Jeff R. Swick, maintains the family business through involvement in both Swick Construction Inc. and Elegant Home Supply. Like the previous generations, Jeff also gained carpentry experience as a young man working with his father and grandfather.
Jeff received a degree in Construction Systems Management from The Ohio State University. While at O.S.U., Jeff worked for the state of Ohio’s Construction Compliance Department. After graduation, he served as an outside sales representative for a building wholesale company. In 1999 Jeff returned to the family business and was designated the construction manager and head of sales for Swick Construction Inc. Jeff also serves as president of Elegant Home Supply Incorporated.
In 1999 the S.C.I. and EHSI team expanded with the hiring of Eric Rampe. Eric, the son-in-law of Daniel, received a bachelor of science from University of Toledo. Eric currently serves as the vice-president and treasurer of Elegant Home Supply Inc. and manages the staining and finishing department. Eric also serves as a carpenter for Swick Construction Inc. as needed.
Drawing on a rich family history of quality carpentry and construction management, Swick Construction Inc. takes great pride in meeting the unique needs of the current market’s custom home consumer. This is achieved through a diverse range of construction services from project management to custom interior milled products, and carried out by an experienced, skilled and friendly staff. |
